You might think pizza is difficult to mess up. Unfortunately, some people take that proclamation as a challenge, using the Italian staple as a platform to create some of the worst dishes imaginable. From too many toppings to disgusting additions, here are some of the worst pies you can get around the world.
And no, these aren’t going to be one-off creations made by a stoned dude in Macedonia. These are actual pies that you can go out and buy — though we’re not sure that you’d want to.
Did you know Iowa is the originator of its own unique pizza tradition called Mexican Pizza that has doritos and a fuck ton of lettuce on it pic.twitter.com/srAqY42rbH

Kicking off our list is taco pizza, invented not in Mexico, but Iowa. According to Bon Appétit, taco pizza was created by Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream in Davenport, and consists of a normal pizza covered in refried beans, ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes and a chip resembling Doritos.

Over in Germany, they’ve got another pizza favorite: thunfisch pizza. This, as the name would imply, is a normal pizza that the Deutsch have opted to cover in canned tuna fish (it must be canned, not fresh, say the experts). For added pain, this X/Twitter user has added pineapple to his pie. Add it to the list of German crimes!
Another 'weird pizza topping'. 'Mockba' is a Russian favourite, assorted fish & onions served cold.....yum? #Nantwich pic.twitter.com/2wskkvsAi3

Russians love pizza. Some of them even love covering their pizza in fish. The “moskva” pizza, named after the country’s capital, features sardines, tuna, mackerel and salmon, finished off with a bunch of onions. If you want to eat it like a true Russian, cover it in red caviar and eat it cold.
while the americans are eating their horrible turkey dinners today i'm eating some quality food, a classic swedish banana pizza pic.twitter.com/hakDJw4o9W

The Scandinavian countries aren’t exactly known for their food, but you’d hope they’d be able to come up with something better than this. This is a pizza covered in bananas and curry powder. The Swedes apparently go crazy for this stuff. I don’t get it, either — blame the lack of Vitamin D, I guess.
meanwhile in Japan, Dominos unleashes the Ultra-Topping Mayo Jaga pic.twitter.com/kDfLMFidGF

In case you wanted carbs with your carbs, Japan has a popular pizza called “mayo jaga,” which involves adding potatoes and bacon, then covering the pizza in mayonnaise. Delicious? Maybe. Indulgent? Absolutely.
Let me tell you the the most hysterical pizza story in the world.

There's a chain of pizzerias in Finland called Kotipizza.
In 2008, they introduced a pizza called 'Pizza Berlusconi'. It's named after Silvio Berlusconi, the former prime minster of Italy.

This Finnish fave offers cheese, onions, tomato sauce and smoked reindeer on a rye crust. The pizza was originally named after former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi declared that the people of the country only ate “marinated reindeer,” describing the country’s food culture as one he had to “endure.” Seeing this, maybe he was right.

Day 1 being back in Australia: kangaroo and emu pizza pic.twitter.com/yjTIwvGaSB

I hate to say it, but I’ve eaten kangaroo and emu pizza and it was damn good. Still, I’d imagine the average American might wince a bit upon seeing the famed hopping animal diced and placed upon a pie. Just close your eyes and eat it, dude.

While not super common, camel pizza is pretty easy to find throughout the Middle East. And, if you make your way even further east, you might even come across a horse pizza.
I had a chance to try pizza with horse meat recently in Kazakhstan)) pic.twitter.com/tIgSxGfBRk
